Dobro došli!
Sažetak predavanja
Linguistics has a long tradition of dividing morphological patterns into ‘regular’ and ‘irregular’ types, equating these with rule-governed (productive) morphological behavior and exceptions, respectively. In recent years, however, evidence has accumulated that no sharp line can be drawn between rule-governed behavior and exceptionality. In this talk, I explore an alternative approach to morphological productivity which focuses on better modeling of the network structure of the lexicon. I show how this approach offers insight into two kinds of so-called inflectional irregularity: defectiveness (no inflected form to express some inflectional meaning) and overabundance (more than one inflected form to express some inflectional meaning). Data will be drawn primarily from Russian and Croatian.
